Hon faller tungt/She falls heavily.
She falls heavy is proof of the inherent strength and survival instinct of humans. Joy is a little middle school girl who is exposed to severe trauma both at school and outside. No one around her sees, no one suspects what is going on and no one comes to help. Many years later, Joy finds herself in a deep crisis due to childhood trauma. Her memory fails, and her life falls apart when she loses her job, her son to social services and ends up in the spiral of psychiatry.
In She Falls Heavy, Joy talks about her severe abuse and trauma, her path through psychiatry and social services, and concludes with information about the diagnosis she eventually received, Dissociative Identity Disorder.
She Falls Heavy is Joy's first biography but fourth published book. She has previously written two children's books about what it can be like for a child when a parent has mental illness, Kottens mamma blir sjuk/Kotten's mother gets sick and Kotten bor inte hos mamma/Kotten doesn't live with his mother. She originally wrote both books for her son so that he would understand more easily why he can't live with his mother. Joy won a scholarship for the book Kotten's mother gets sick. The third book is a children's book about sexual abuse, Kottan has a secret.
Through She Falls Heavy, Joy has combined the feeling of a biography about her life in combination with facts about the diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder, one of the diagnoses that Joy struggles with every day. Struggling with mental illness is a daily struggle, but Joy is determined not to let it dictate her entire life. In the future, Joy hopes to be able to lecture about mental illness, especially about Dissociative Identity Disorder, the treatment in healthcare, and what it can be like to have children and live with mental illness at the same time.
